RSC STAFF ON RUSSIAN MEDIA LEAK OF ARMENIAN MILITARY SECRETS

In the latest in our “RSC Staff Analysis” publication series, Dr. Haykak Arshamyan offered a new analysis entitled, “Information leak on Armenian Army or Russia's new strategy in the region.” This is the English-version of the original Armenian-language article, which assessed the implications of a recent analytical publication in the Russian weekly newspaper “Military-Industrial Courier,” where the deputy director of Institute of Political and Military Analysis Aleksandr Khramchikhin revealed confidential detailed information about the Armenian armed forces.

More specifically, Khramchikhin provided details about the location, as well as the quantity and quality, military units and weapons of the Armenian and Nagorno-Karabakh militaries. Interestingly, the same author has similar publications on other Eastern Partnership countries as Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Baltic states.

In the case of Armenia, this seems quite embarrassing, if we take into account the strategic partnership between Russia and Armenia and more importantly the CSTO membership. And in the context of the tense relations between Russia and Turkey, this reveals new developments in the region, including a possible change of the status quo.
