In a special “Year in Review” analytical briefing, the Regional Studies Center (RSC) provided an assessment of developments and trends in Armenia and the South Caucasus region through 2025.
This “Year in Review” briefing, convened on 16 December, focused on the broader trends and developments, with an assessment of two thematic areas: Armenian foreign policy, including Armenia-Azerbaijan diplomacy and the outlook for Armenia-Türkiye “normalization,” as well as Armenian relations with Russia, Iran and the West, and an analysis of domestic Armenian politics in the context of the country’s approaching parliamentary elections set for June 2026. The briefing then concluded with a predictive look ahead for the coming year, presenting an analysis of specific trends to be expected in 2026.
This briefing was attended by the Canadian Ambassador, along with diplomatic staff from the Embassies of Georgia, Italy, Japan, and the United States, as well as from the European Union (EU) Delegation in Armenia, the European Monitoring Mission in Armenia (EUMA) and the UNDP, and from academia.
Two separate online sessions of this briefing were also held on 18 and 19 December, with participants from Berlin, Brussels, London, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Tbilisi and Washington, and including the Irish and Swiss Ambassadors to Armenia.
As an independent “think tank,” the Regional Studies Center (RSC) offers this regular series of analytical briefings to present a concise and comprehensive assessment of the most significant political, economic and military/security developments in Armenia and the South Caucasus region. With a target audience of representatives of the diplomatic community and international organizations in Armenia, the format of this briefing series consists of an informal “off-the-record” and closed discussion, reflecting our aim of providing an alternative source of objective analysis.
The PowerPoint presentation notes from the “Year in Review” briefing are attached.
