RSC ATTENDS EU EASTERN PARTNERSHIP CIVIL SOCIETY FORUM

From 20-21 November 2014, RSC staff participated in the EU Eastern Partnership (EaP) Civil Society Forum in Batumi, Georgia, as part of the official Armenian delegation. This 6th annual EaP Civil Society Forum in Batumi was officially entitled, “EU Integration & Common Security: Making it Happen.”

.

Established in the wake of the inaugural Eastern Partnership Summit in Prague in 2009, the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum supports the development and exchange of experience of civil society organizations from the six Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and the EU.

In the five years since its establishment, the platform has been able to transform itself from a meeting of civil society representatives into an institutionalized policy forum, where an exchange of ideas and best practices brings together partners from the six EaP countries and the EU with the common goal of expanding the European integration processes towards the Eastern Neighbourhood.

RSC Director Richard Giragosian moderated an opening day panel entitled the “Eastern partnership in a New Security Environment: The Russia Factor,” with presentations by five speakers: Dirk Schuebel, European External Action Service, Ambassador Andrzej Cieszkowski, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Georgia; Oleksandr Sushko, Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, Ukraine; Viorel Cibotaru, European Institute for Political Studies; and Sergi Kapanadze, Georgia’s Reforms Associates (GRASS).

Ms. Satenik Baghdasaryan of the RSC staff also participated in a Youth side event entitled, “Strengthening Youth Voice in the Eastern Partnership region,” held from 18-19 November in Kobuleti, Georgia.
