RSC SPECIAL WORKSHOP & FOCUS GROUP: “THE FUTURE OF ARMENIA-EU RELATIONS”

On 7 November, the Regional Studies Center (RSC) held a special workshop and “focus group” discussion entitled, “The Future of Armenia-EU Relations,” with over twenty participants engaged in a “brainstorming” session offering innovative ideas to strategize and “brainstorm” on specific elements of the relationship.

.

Assisted by several staff members of the EU Delegation to Armenia, along with observers that included German Ambassador Reiner Morell, Swedish Chargé d’Affaires Mårten Ehnberg, and Mr. Paulo Borda Silos, First Secretary at the Embassy of Brazil, as well as representatives from the Czech, UK and Ukrainian Embassies in Armenia, RSC Director Richard Giragosian facilitated the discussion.

Although Armenia seems set on an irreversible course to join the Russian-dominated “Eurasian Economic Union,” this workshop focused on the new opportunity to salvage relations between Armenia and the European Union (EU). The participants focused on the development of a new binding draft legal framework with the EU and devoted special attention to the necessary benchmarks and metrics to measure the Armenian government’s performance and its fulfillment of concrete targets of cooperation.
